Yet, considering that apps programs were themselves measured in kilobytes, ten MB was VAST.

[And that price wasn't bad either - Tandy offered a 1 MB hard drive for $1,600.]

Indeed, my first hard drive was a burly full height 5.25" unit holding an immense 15MB - and try as I might, I never managed to fill it more than about ⅔ full, with all the games I had, all the text files, and so on. And now, a single photo from my D7100 would have difficulty fitting on it. =:D

Its controller was quite a piece of work, too - about A4/letter size, crammed with chips. Came to a sad, early end when, one time after I'd been doing some work on it all, I reconnected the power lines the way I thought they were.. but not, and transposed the 12 & 5v rails. All the status LEDs came on, quite brightly, followed by the release of a tiny measure of magic smoke from one of the LSI devices.
